Quick Guide to Cleveland: Top Things to Do

One of the first travel bloggers we interacted with when we began our Instagram journey was Kat and Chris of World Wide Honeymoon. We’re excited to feature them in this post as they share the best things to do in Cleveland, Ohio.

MEET WORLD WIDE HONEYMOON!

Just like us, Kat and Chris try to find a nice balance between budget travel and indulging themselves here and there. We also share a similar outlook on life when it came to valuing experiences over things. So how did their love of traveling together begin? This addiction all began with an African safari. From there, they went to Southeast Asia for their honeymoon and got into the art of travel hacking. Collecting credit card points along with careful budgeting and planning has led them to locations all around the world, as well as creating a travel-based blog and podcast.

Worldwide Honeymoon in Paris
Kat & Chris have traveled to Paris and many other destinations around the world.

They’ll share some more of their travel memories and tips later in this post, but let’s get to our main topic, which is learning more about things to do in Cleveland! We asked Kat and Chris a few questions about their hometown:

TOP THINGS TO DO IN CLEVELAND

Why should someone visit your city?

“Cleveland has some fantastic museums like the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the 2nd best art museum in the country: the Cleveland Museum of Art. There is also a thriving theatre district, great breweries, delicious food and a national park right in our backyard at Cuyahoga Valley National Park!”

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is one of our favorite museums to visit.

What is a touristy attraction you recommend and why?

“There are so many great spots, but we absolutely love hiking in Cuyahoga Valley National Park the most. There are tons of trails to explore that lead to beautiful lookouts and waterfalls.”

Cuyahoga Valley National Park
Cuyahoga Valley was the first national park we visited together!

What is a touristy attraction you don’t recommend and why?

“While we love exploring the beaches all over Cleveland, Edgewater Beach is overrated. It is very crowded, the water isn’t very clean and there is a lot of garbage that washes up onshore. The park is nice and the walking/ running paths are great, but there are far better beaches to visit outside of downtown.”

What is an attraction that is not as well-known that you would recommend and why?

“Not many people visit Cleveland for the beer scene, and they’re missing out. There are fantastic microbreweries all over the city like Great Lakes Brewing Company, Masthead Brewing Company, Bookhouse Brewing and countless others! In our neighborhood of Ohio City alone, we have 9 breweries!”

What is a must-visit restaurant and why?

“This is a tough question because there is something for everyone here! But our favorite restaurant that is fairly upscale is The Black Pig. The pork collar is incredible if you eat meat and their mushroom ravioli is divine! We also love their cocktails and cheese boards. It is a great date night spot (and where we had our rehearsal dinner!). For cheaper eats, we are big fans of Superior Pho and Barroco Arepa Bar.”

MORE TRAVEL TALK WITH KAT & CHRIS

Thanks to Kat and Chris for their recommendations on things to do in Cleveland! Since we’re based in Chicagoland, we regularly pass through the Greater Cleveland area and can’t wait to check out some of their suggestions. To wrap up, we asked them a few more travel-related questions:

Where is your favorite destination you’ve ever traveled to?

“This is another tough question as we have fallen in love with many places. But Peru has been our favorite trip from end to end. The people, food, nature and more make it an incredible destination for adventurers and couples alike! In particular, we LOVED the Amazon rainforest and staying at Tambopata Research Center. We saw macaws, jaguars, capybaras and so many monkeys! However, as far as our favorite city, Paris is a dream with beautiful architecture, incredible museums and the best food and wine.”

Worldwide Honeymoon at Peru
Peru was one of Kat and Chris' all-time favorite trips.

What is at the top of your travel bucket list at the moment?

“For Chris, it is hands-down to go on a gorilla trek in Uganda. For Kat, it is to explore Japan or Morocco.”

If you could only share one travel tip, what would it be?

“Know that not everything will go exactly to plan and that’s okay! Not every moment is the picture-perfect Instagram photo… and that’s the beauty of it! You’ll probably encounter an argument or two along the way, and whether you’re solo traveling or in a group, you’ll get lost, miss a flight, etc. It’s not perfect but that’s the point.”
